NIPSCO is acknowledging a mistake in how it communicated power restoration estimates following the August 11, 2026, storms that caused widespread outages across Northwest Indiana, while promising an independent review of its response.

Governor Mike Braun today directed the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) to file a complaint and petition the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) to launch an investigation into NIPSCO following widespread and prolonged power outages in Northwest Indiana caused by severe weather that began on Aug. 11.
NIPSCO says 28,495 customers remained without power as of 7 a.m. CT Sunday, Aug. 23, as restoration efforts continue following outages that began Aug. 11.
