Triton High School has named Caleb Oetjen its interim head girls basketball coach following the resignation of the program’s previous varsity head coach.
The Triton School Corporation announced that the previous coach’s resignation was effective October 8, 2026. The school acknowledged the news came as a surprise, particularly following a parent and player meeting held October 7.
In its earlier statement, Triton said its priority was moving forward and identifying a coach who would serve the best interests of student-athletes and the continued development of the program.
Oetjen, who has spent the past two years coaching Triton’s junior varsity boys basketball team, compiled a 40-7 record and won two Bi-County Tournament championships during that time.
He brings four years of collegiate coaching experience and three years at the high school level.
Oetjen graduated from Bethel University in 2017, where he earned NAIA All-American honors and was named Crossroads League Player of the Year. He went on to play professional basketball in Lithuania and Germany from 2017 to 2019.
“My family and I are super excited to lead the girls basketball program at Triton High School,” Oetjen said in the athletic department’s announcement. “Our family has been a part of this community for over two years now and have loved every minute of it.”
Oetjen also acknowledged the circumstances surrounding his appointment.
“Although the timing was unexpected, we are thankful for the opportunity to serve the girls and families that represent this program,” he said.
He added that Triton has a rich basketball tradition and that his family is excited to be part of the program’s next chapter.
The school has not provided a reason for the previous coach’s resignation or announced how long Oetjen will serve in the interim position.
