A 47-year-old Plymouth man was arrested on preliminary operating while intoxicated charges Sunday night after police stopped a vehicle for speeding on North Street.

According to Plymouth Police, officers stopped Gary Alvarez-Cespedes around 8:53 p.m. November 1 after observing a vehicle traveling 49 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. The vehicle pulled over on North Street, just east of Western Avenue.

During the investigation, officers determined that Alvarez-Cespedes had been consuming alcohol and had never obtained a driver’s license.

Police also reported that Alvarez-Cespedes had been arrested just three days earlier, on October 29, for driving without ever having been licensed.

A portable breath test indicated a reported alcohol concentration of .163. Alvarez-Cespedes was arrested and transported to the Plymouth Police Department for a blood draw.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the blood draw, which was approved and signed by a judge. The results of that blood draw were not included in the release.

Alvarez-Cespedes was later transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked on the following preliminary charges:

  • Operating while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of .15 or greater

  • Operating while intoxicated - endangerment

  • Driving without ever having obtained a license
