A 34-year-old man wanted in Starke County for allegedly failing to register as a sex offender has been arrested in Illinois following a joint investigation involving local and federal authorities.
According to the Starke County Sheriff’s Office, Brandyn J. Garbison was located at a gas station in Riverdale, Illinois, through an investigation conducted with the U.S. Marshals Task Force. He was taken into custody at that location.
Cook County Sheriff’s Office jail records show Garbison was booked into the Cook County Jail on October 20. He is currently listed as being held without bond.
Garbison is awaiting an extradition hearing in Illinois. Once the extradition process is completed, he is expected to be returned to Starke County to face the outstanding warrant.
The Starke County Sheriff’s Office said additional charges may be sought as the investigation continues.
Sheriff Rosa thanked the U.S. Marshals Task Force for its assistance and recognized the department’s Sex Offender Unit for its investigative work.
“These partnerships are invaluable to our agency and play an important role in helping us maintain a safer community,” Rosa said. “I also want to recognize our Sex Offender Unit for its thorough investigative work, follow-up, and commitment to seeing this case through.”
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
