The Hamlet Fire Department has welcomed a new addition to its fleet, and according to the department, not a single tax dollar was used to purchase it.

Department members placed Engine 1, a pumper tanker, into service Sunday.

According to the department, the new truck will replace two existing vehicles because it can perform the duties of both.

What makes this addition particularly noteworthy is how it was funded. The department says the purchase was made using money from the firefighters themselves rather than taxpayer dollars.

The new Engine 1 is now in service with the department.
