The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving callers pretending to work for the department and asking for money to bond loved ones out of jail.
According to a warning issued Wednesday, October 21, the sheriff’s office has received information about people getting calls from individuals claiming to be sheriff’s office employees. The callers reportedly have convincing information, making the calls appear legitimate.
However, the sheriff’s office says its corrections staff will never send barcodes or direct people to visit local dollar stores or pharmacies to wire money for bond payments.
Anyone receiving one of these calls is urged to hang up and contact the sheriff’s office directly.
Residents can call the Pulaski County Dispatch Center at 574-946-6655 and request to speak with the intake or booking desk. Staff can then explain the proper process for paying someone’s bond.
