According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Lake County police officers and Indiana State Police responded shortly after 7 PM CT on Saturday, August 22, 2026, to Karmic Sunshine, an antiques and accessories shop located at 2996 W. 181st Avenue.
A preliminary investigation indicates a 62-year-old male suspect allegedly shot and killed a female victim inside the business and wounded a second female, age 24, who was attempting to escape.
The suspect is believed to have subsequently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The 24-year-old woman was hospitalized in stable condition.
A young child and an adult male were also present during the incident and were not injured.
Indiana State Police said the shooting occurred at the strip mall east of I-65 on State Road 2. ISP said the scene was secure and there was no ongoing threat to the public.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is the lead agency investigating the shooting. The investigation remains active and ongoing, and no further details were released.
