At about 1:15 p.m. on August 31, 2026, the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a call reporting a possibly deceased man inside a locked Ford F-350 parked at the Cracker Barrel at 110 Northpointe Drive.
Elkhart Police Department officers and other first responders arrived and confirmed that a 60-year-old man inside the vehicle was deceased.
Police said the initial investigation indicates the vehicle had been parked in the business parking lot for more than a week. The business contacted the transportation company that owned the vehicle, which led to the discovery.
An Elkhart Police supervisor contacted the Elkhart County Homicide Unit to make the unit aware of the situation. Police said there is currently no indication of foul play and the case is not being investigated by the Homicide Unit.
The Elkhart County Coroner’s Office was contacted and will handle the death investigation.
