Two longtime John Glenn School Corporation educators have announced they will retire at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.

Pam Hayes, a third grade teacher at Walkerton Elementary School, shared that she is retiring after 37 years with the corporation. In her message to the Walkerton community, Hayes thanked generations of families for trusting her with their children and said she always considered Walkerton home.

“I never wanted to teach anywhere else because… I was home,” Hayes wrote.

Amy Weiss also announced her retirement at the close of the school year. According to the district staff directory, Weiss currently serves as a Title I educator working with both Walkerton Elementary and North Liberty Elementary. Weiss said she was fortunate to teach in both schools during her career, while also serving in High Ability programs and classrooms across four grade levels.

Weiss described students as “the heart of it all,” saying they shaped both her career and her life.

Both educators expressed gratitude to students, parents, staff, and the wider Walkerton and North Liberty communities for the support, friendships, and memories built over the years.

Their retirements mark the close of decades of service to John Glenn schools.
