Temple Israel released a statement confirming that all students and staff are safe after a terrorist gunman targeted the synagogue earlier today.
According to the statement sent to families, all 140 students enrolled in the Susan and Harold Loss Early Childhood Center, along with teachers, staff members, and security personnel, have been accounted for.
Temple officials said the attacker was confronted and neutralized by security personnel assigned to protect the facility.
Leaders at the synagogue praised staff and educators for quickly following emergency protocols and ensuring the safety of the children.
Temple Israel also expressed gratitude to local law enforcement and nearby community partners for their support following the incident.
The synagogue specifically thanked the Shenendoah Country Club, which opened its doors to help shelter, feed, and assist students, staff, and parents after the attack.
In the message to families, temple leaders said they wanted to provide immediate reassurance that everyone was safe.
Additional updates regarding future programming and services are expected as the investigation continues.
