SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING ISSUED FOR SOUTHERN ELKHART & NORTHERN KOSCIUSKO COUNTIES

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southern Elkhart County and northern Kosciusko County until 2:30 PM EDT Monday.

At 1:57 PM EDT, radar indicated a severe thunderstorm near Atwood, near Warsaw, moving northeast at approximately 55 MPH.

Forecasters say the storm is capable of producing:

• Wind gusts up to 60 MPH
• Frequent lightning
• Small hail

The primary concern with this storm is damaging winds that could bring down trees and cause damage to roofs and siding.

Communities impacted include Goshen, Nappanee, Syracuse, Milford, North Webster, Millersburg, New Paris, Benton, Locke, Etna Green, Leesburg, Oswego, Hastings, Foraker, Lake Wawasee, Clunette, Gravelton, Dewart Lake, Oakwood Park, and Tippecanoe Lake.

Residents in the warning area are urged to move indoors immediately and shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
