SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING ISSUED FOR ELKHART COUNTY, EASTERN ST. JOSEPH COUNTY (IN), AND PARTS OF SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN

The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Elkhart County, eastern St. Joseph County in Indiana, Cass County in Michigan, and western St. Joseph County in Michigan until 2:30 PM EDT Monday.
At 1:44 PM EDT, radar indicated severe thunderstorms along a line extending from near Hartford to Edwardsburg to near Bremen, moving northeast at approximately 30 MPH.
Forecasters say the storms are capable of producing:
- Wind gusts up to 60 MPH
- Penny-sized hail
- Frequent lightning
The primary concern with these storms is damaging winds that could bring down trees and cause damage to roofs and siding.
Communities impacted include Elkhart, Mishawaka, Goshen, Three Rivers, Dowagiac, Simonton Lake, Granger, Dunlap, Middlebury, Osceola, Constantine, Cassopolis, Wakarusa, Bristol, White Pigeon, Edwardsburg, Marcellus, Union, Pokagon, and Penn.
Interstate 80 in Indiana between mile markers 81 and 108 is also included in the warning area.
Residents are urged to move indoors immediately and take shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
