NWS Confirms EF-1 Tornado Near Wheatfield in Jasper County

The National Weather Service Chicago office has confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down near Wheatfield in Jasper County, Indiana during the severe weather outbreak on March 10, 2026.

 

According to the NWS damage survey, the tornado began at 7:43 PM CDT about 4 miles southwest of Wheatfield and tracked northeast through rural Jasper County before lifting at 8:10 PM CDT about 2 miles southeast of Dunns Bridge.

  • Estimated Peak Wind: 110 mph
  • Path Length: 10.3 miles
  • Maximum Width: 1,500 yards
  • Fatalities: 0
  • Injuries: 3

The tornado was part of the same storm system that produced multiple tornadoes across northwest Indiana and nearby areas that evening.

 

NWS survey data shows the tornado remained on the ground for more than 10 miles as it moved across Jasper County. While no deaths were reported, three injuries were confirmed.

 

The Wheatfield tornado occurred earlier in the evening, ahead of stronger tornadoes that later developed as the storm system continued east.

 

Officials say the survey findings are preliminary and may still be refined through final review and publication in official storm data.
