April 7, 2026 at 7:10:06 AM

The University of Michigan is back on top of college basketball.

Michigan defeated UConn 69-63 to claim the 2026 NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship, securing the program’s second national title in school history.

The Wolverines held off a late push from UConn, maintaining control down the stretch in a tightly contested matchup. Michigan’s defense and composure in the final minutes proved to be the difference, as they limited scoring opportunities and capitalized at the free-throw line.

UConn, which entered the title game with championship pedigree, kept the game within reach but was unable to overcome Michigan’s balanced effort on both ends of the floor.

With the win, Michigan caps off a dominant tournament run and adds another championship banner to its program history.
