Authorities have identified the individual who was found deceased Thursday afternoon in a residence damaged by Tuesday evening’s tornado.

According to the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 4:24 p.m. on March 12, 2026, to a home on Oakwood Drive in Aroma Park, an area that sustained some of the most significant damage from the storm.

Upon arrival, deputies and members of the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office located and pronounced Maurice R. Norington deceased. Officials say the death appears to be the result of injuries sustained during Tuesday night’s tornado.

Investigators said Norington was initially discovered by employees of a service company who were working in the area and reported the finding to authorities.

Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey extended condolences to those affected by the loss.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and neighbors of Mr. Norington,” Downey said. “Our law enforcement and other first responders have had an incredibly difficult job to do since Tuesday evening’s devastating storms. I am extremely proud of their efforts up to this point and applaud them for their continued work as we attempt to move forward.”

The sheriff also urged residents in storm-impacted areas to continue checking on those around them.

“I want to remind area residents in the impacted areas to continue to check on your loved ones and neighbors until everyone is completely accounted for,” Downey said.

Emergency crews and local officials continue recovery and assessment efforts across parts of Kankakee County following the severe weather outbreak earlier this week.
