Eastern Pulaski School Corporation officials say a situation involving a student bringing prohibited items to school was handled quickly and safely earlier today at Eastern Pulaski Elementary.
According to a message sent to families, a student brought a knife and an electric candle lighter — which the student referred to as a taser — to the school. School administrators and School Resource Officer Record immediately investigated the situation after learning about the items.
School officials said the items were confiscated right away and the student’s parents were contacted. The situation was addressed promptly.
Administrators emphasized that at no time were students or staff in danger.
District officials shared the information with families and the community to help prevent misinformation, but noted that additional details cannot be released in order to protect student privacy.
School leaders also reminded families of the importance of reporting concerns.
Students are encouraged to report any safety concerns to a trusted adult under the “See Something, Say Something” approach.
Concerns can also be reported anonymously through the district’s Online Safety Reporting System, available 24 hours a day on the school website at:
https://www.epulaski.k12.in.us/
Reports can also be made by calling 574-946-4010 and asking to speak with a building principal or the School Resource Officer.
School officials say the safety of students and staff remains their top priority.
