The Chicago Bears have taken a major step toward a potential move to Northwest Indiana.
According to a memo from Bears President and CEO Kevin Warren, the team’s Board of Directors voted to advance the organization’s stadium development project in Hammond, Indiana.
“Yesterday, the Chicago Bears Board of Directors met and voted to advance our stadium development project in Hammond, Indiana, with the exact site to be selected,” Warren wrote.
While a final stadium agreement has not yet been announced, the vote signals continued momentum for the Hammond proposal as the Bears evaluate options for their future home.
The team has been weighing locations in both Illinois and Indiana while pursuing plans for a new stadium. Indiana lawmakers previously approved legislation aimed at supporting a potential stadium project in Hammond, while efforts to advance a stadium plan in Illinois have faced legislative hurdles.
A final decision on the Bears’ stadium location is expected later this year.
