Charges Filed Against Sharod L. Grafton in the Shooting of Deputy Jon Samuelson

Charges have officially been filed against the man accused of shooting LaPorte County Sheriff’s Deputy Jon Samuelson.

According to the Indiana State Police, detectives with the Lowell Post Criminal Investigations Division have completed their initial investigation into the incident and submitted their findings to the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutor Sean Fagan has approved multiple felony charges against 22-year-old Sharod L. Grafton of Chicago, Illinois.

The approved charges include:

• Attempted Murder – Level 1 Felony
• Battery Against a Public Safety Official – Level 5 Felony
• Auto Theft – Level 6 Felony

Indiana State Police say the case is now part of an active criminal court process and they will not provide additional comments regarding the investigation.

Investigators also noted the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges could still be filed if deemed appropriate.

As with all criminal cases, all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
