A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Indiana and Ohio until 12 AM EDT

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of northern Indiana, including the Michiana area, until 12:00 AM EDT (11:00 PM CDT).

 

What this means:

Conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of:

  • Damaging wind gusts
  • Large hail
  • Frequent lightning

 

Counties included:

The watch covers a large portion of northern Indiana, including St. Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall, Kosciusko, La Porte, Starke, Pulaski, Fulton, Miami, and surrounding counties.

 

What to expect:

Storms may develop and move through the area this evening and overnight. Some storms could become severe with the potential for strong winds and hail.

 

What to do:

  • Stay weather-aware this evening
  • Have a way to receive warnings if storms intensify
  • Be prepared to move indoors quickly if warnings are issued
